Bronze Entry Level Camp

Escape on an island adventure to relax in peaceful surroundings with the bush, birds and beach at
your side. This trip is designed for students in Year 9 wanting to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh
programme and qualifies as the practice tramp for the Bronze Award but can also be a one of trip for students wanting to visit Stewart Island over MAD Week. A rough itinerary is outlined


Sunday 5th December 

  • Travel to Bluff (parents drop off and pick up, travel by ferry)
  • Explore Oban, packed lunch, walk to the lodge
  • Explore lodge and walk to Wooding Bay
  • Dinner at the lodge, Night activities

Monday 6th December

  • Day walk to Port William Hut and return
  • Activities during the day walk - lunch, fishing, swimming, paua hunting - all weather and tide dependant
  • Dinner and night activities

Tuesday 7th December

  • Ulva Island visit in the morning
  • Lunch
  • 3pm ferry home

Planning And Preparation

Prior to going students will have an introduction to the Duke of Ed programme and be guided through the website, those who are serious about taking on the challenge will need to enroll before heading to camp.

Students need to have an understanding of Hypothermia, causes, signs and symptoms as well as how to identify and treat someone with hypothermia.

Number Requirements

15 minimum and 18 maximum so it will be a first in first served basis and your place will only be
secured when you have returned your permission slip to the school office.

Total Cost

The trip in total is roughly $160 plus food, this number will change depending on sponsorship and any fundraising done.

Enrolling into Bronze Duke of Ed will cost a further $100 but does not need to be paid until next year.
